Cookies and storage
We don’t use advertising or tracking cookies. The site stores a small amount of information in your own browser, mostly so the question about usage statistics works. This page lists everything, one item at a time.
Stored because you use the site
These make the usage-statistics question work.
| What | Name in your browser | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| Your analytics choice (Yes or No) | cs:analytics (local storage) |
So we remember your answer, don’t ask again, and send nothing if you said No | Until you clear site data |
| A storage test | cs:probe (local storage) |
Each time the site reads your choice, it checks that your browser can save it. That happens when a page loads, and before any usage statistics are sent. It writes this entry and deletes it at once | Deleted at once |
If your browser can’t save your answer, we don’t ask the question, and we send nothing.
Stored only if you say Yes
| What | Name in your browser | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| A random number for usage statistics | Inside cs:analytics |
So we can count how often each calculator is used. It doesn’t tell us your name, but we still treat it as personal information | Until you say No or clear site data |
If you say No later, your browser deletes the random number. See our privacy notice for what the statistics contain.
Not stored
- The figures you enter. The calculators don’t save them on your device.
- Share links. A share link holds your figures only in the link itself. We build it only when you press the button. Like any web address you visit, it stays in your browser history.
Other services we use
- The spam check on the report form. When you open the Report a mistake form, a spam check runs, so that the form isn’t flooded with spam. It may store a small item on your device to tell people from automated traffic. We don’t set cookies for it.
- Page-view counts. Our hosting and security provider counts page views for us, without cookies. Nothing is stored on your device. Choosing No also stops the cookieless page-view count, from the next page you open.
- Security. Our hosting and security provider may set a short security cookie called
__cf_bm, to tell people from automated traffic. It lasts up to 30 minutes.
How to change your choice or clear everything
To change your answer about usage statistics, press Analytics choice at the bottom of any page. Choosing No also stops the cookieless page-view count.
To delete everything this site has stored, clear the “site data” for calcsorted.com in your browser’s settings. The next time you visit, we will ask about usage statistics again.
